1st Grade Curriculum
Religion
Students learn and discuss lessons in catechism, learn about the saints and various prayers, they also explore God and his love, angels, important figures in the Old Testament and new testament, the life of Christ, sin, grace, the Sacraments of Penance and the Holy Eucharist
Phonics & Reading
Students develop a love for reading, learn long vowel words and blends, learn to read consonant diagraphs, r-controlled words, and increase sight word vocabulary
Handwriting
Students learn and practice proper number and letter formation
Arithmetic
Students learn mathematical concepts including one and two digit addition and subtraction, counting money, telling time to the half hour, beginning fractions, measurements, place value and counting by 2s, 5s, 10s and 25
Social Studies
Students learn about important early American figures and develop map skills
Latin
Students learn and memorize basic prayers in Latin
Science
Students learn to appreciate God's beautiful world while they explore and investigate plants, animals, people, growth, habitats, fossils and earth's resources
Physical Education
Students are taught the virtues of charity, sportsmanship, and patience as well as social interaction
Music
Students learn to sing Catholic hymns and patriotic songs a fun image or video!
Art
Students explore their creativity through a variety of art projects throughout the school year
