8th Grade Curriculum
Religion
Students continue to grow and expand their knowledge of Catholic Doctrine
Reading and Language Art
Students continue to improve upon their analytical, writing, grammar and punctuation skills with a number of book reports and various creative writing activities throughout the year
Pre-Algebra
Students learn prime and composite numbers, fractions and decimals, order of operations, coordinates, exponents, square roots, ratios, algebraic phrases, probability and the Pythagorean Theorem
Social Studies
Students explore the origins of ancient human history through the fall of mighty empires, particularly Rome and Greece
Science
Students explore the physical sciences learning about the properties of matter, atomic structure, the Periodic Table, chemical bonds and reactions, solutions, acids and bases, carbon chemistry, motion, fluids, electricity, machines, magnetism, optics and the light spectrum
Latin
Students review all first form latin grammar before delving into personal and possessive pronouns, irregular 2nd and 3rd nouns, 3rd and 4th conjugation verbs, passive voice, Catholic prayers and Latin sayings
Physical Education
Students are taught the virtues of charity, sportsmanship, and patience as well as social interaction through two-handed touch football, handball, soccer, dodgeball and a variety of other sports
Music
Students learn the basics of Gregorian Chant and practice reciting Latin hymns
Art
Students engage in interdisciplinary art projects throughout their courses
